Rag Mayur’s Anumana Pakshi, directed by DJ Tillu fame Mallik Ram, hit theatres on Friday. Mithila Palkar plays the female lead, with Ajay, Raasi and Brahmaji in key roles. Released alongside The Paradise, the film raises the question of whether Mallik Ram has recreated the magic of DJ Tillu.
Anumana Pakshi Story: Sunny (Rag Mayur) is a YouTuber who doubts almost everything and often creates problems for his family and friends. A friend, angry with Sunny over his losses, cleverly brings him to Kashmir. There, Sunny meets Kanya (Mithila Palkar) and falls in love with her.
Meanwhile, Sunny’s friend Varma (Prince) dies mysteriously, and police officer Vasu (Ajay) suspects Sunny of the murder. The story follows Sunny as he tries to find out what really happened and prove his innocence.
Performances: Rag Mayur does well as a young man who doubts everything and creates problems. His comedy timing works in a few scenes. Mithila Palkar’s role feels similar to Neha Shetty’s character in DJ Tillu, but she lacks the needed charm.
Ajay’s comedy as a police officer does not work. Raasi’s talent is also not used well. Prince and Brahmaji perform their roles adequately, but none of the supporting characters make a lasting impact.
Technical Aspects: The story chosen by director Mallik Ram is confusing from the beginning. The screenplay feels messy, making it difficult to understand the characters and what is happening. The film mixes romance, murder mystery and comedy but fails to present any of them properly.
Among the songs composed by Sricharan Pakala, the song sung by Ramana Gogula is good. Cinematographer Sunil Kumar presents the Kashmir locations beautifully. Overall, the colourful Kashmir visuals are the film’s only major plus point.
Analysis: Director Mallik Ram tries to mix comedy, romance and a murder mystery around the idea of overthinking. However, the execution is confusing, with weak comedy and many illogical scenes. The first half feels forced, while the second half becomes even more messy. The murder twist also fails to impress. Overall, the film has more negatives than positives, though the short runtime is a plus.
