Sankranthi season in Telugu states in the season of riches as the agriculture yields from the villages move to big stores and farmers earn money after a long period of struggle with the environment and other external as well as internal financial issues. Many were skeptical about the demonetization and people turning up to theatres to enjoy the movies.

But the people of Telugu states, who enjoy movie as their favorite past time turned up to enjoy the long weekend at the theatres with clear improvement in money availability. Dhruva, Sahasam Swasaga Saagipo, Ekkadikipothav Chinnavada had to nurse their way through the cash crisis and register decent collections at the box office. Rest of the movies lost big, more than usual with their bad content. Sapthagiri Express was able to manage borderline profits with great promotional strategy.

Coming to the Sankranthi season, throwing all predictions to shame, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No.150 opened on 11th January for a reported record gross of 47.07 crores announced by Allu Aravind himself. The share was reported to be around 36 crores and the movie even though there were reports of abuse of a T mobile Tuesday offer, created a record for Premieres with 1.25 Million dollars behind Bahubali, which registered 1.39M. The rest of the days as well recorded good turn outs even though another big film and a young hero’s film released during the week.

Gautamiputra Satakarni, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s 100th movie did not open to such record grosses like Khaidi but improved over the week with great positive Word of Mouth and also reported to be the first Million dollar movie for Nandamuri Balakrishna in overseas. His previous best has been less than 200k before. Krish with his film has been praised to the heavens by many makers as well. In three days, Gautamiputra Satakarni earned a share of 19.2 crores.

The other film that opened this Sankranthi season right on festival day is the movie of Sharwanand like last Sankranthi. Shatamanam Bhavathi produced by Dil Raju managed to earn a 3Cr share on its first day. On the whole, Sankranthi yielded a big amount of Approx, 65 crs in share and more than 100 in gross. Bigger than last year and Sankranthi again promises to be the best season for films in Telugu states. Head Constable Venkataramayya did not get a decent enough release too.
