Amala Paul’s landmark role in Amma Kanakku

When most actresses her age are still contemplating if they should be sporting a bikini in their next film or not, actress Amala Paul has taken a bold step and decided to play a mother to a 13-year-old. The poster of the Malayalee damsel’s strong, female-oriented role has been getting her a lot of praises. The movie will be shot mostly in Tamil and is titled Amma Kanakku. The 24-year-old actress had no qualms playing the mom to a teenager, say sources. The film will be directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, produced by Amma Kanakku and actor Dhanush along with his Raanjhanaa director Aanand L Rai. The film has music scored by Ilayaraja.

The mother-daughter story is a simple slice-of-life tale with strong scope for performance, especially for Amala. The movie has being doing the rounds in festival circuits and has received a lot of critical acclaim. Way to go, Amala!
