The Underbug, starring actors Ali Fazal and Hussain Dalal, will have its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) in 2023. A special screening of the Shujaat Saudagar-directed psychological horror movie will take place during the festival.
The international premiere of “The Underbug” took place at the prestigious Slamdance Film Festival, where it was awarded the Best Film Grand Jury Prize.
Ali Fazal said, “We are thrilled to have ‘The Underbug’ being showcased at the esteemed Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Our first outing with the film was a stellar success and it’s personally a film that is close to my heart.”
It’s one heck of a trip and a genre I have never done before, and I’m so proud to be a part of it. The film is experimental in all the right ways and it’s thrilling that a whole new set of audiences at the festival will witness the film,” added Ali Fazal
The IFFM is an annual event that will run from August 11 to August 20 and present audiences in Australia with a wide variety of Indian cinema.
In honour of the nation’s Independence Day weekend, veteran actress Shabana Azmi will raise the Indian flag at the IFFM on August 12.
On August 11, the festival is scheduled to begin its eagerly awaited annual event.
Shabana Azmi is delighted to be a member of the IFFM and feels incredibly humbled to have been selected to raise the Indian flag on this historic occasion.
It is exciting to be a part of such a distinguished festival that introduces Indian cinema to viewers throughout the world, the actress said. “IFFM has consistently showcased the incredible diversity and creativity of Indian cinema,” she said.
Given that the festival is hosting the global premiere of our movie, “Ghoomer,” this platform is even more unique. I am really honoured to be given the chance to fly our country’s tricolour in front of the amazing Indian population that resides in Australia.
