Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan were first choices for AK vs AK

Vikramaditya Motwane recalled his thoughts on Aamir Khan for AK vs. AK and Akshay Kumar’s response to it in a recent interview.

There were many rumours and reports regarding who would play the ‘AK’ before Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap were cast as the stars in Vikramaditya Motwane’s meta-documentary AK vs AK. Now, in a recent media interview, Motwane recounted how he had originally written the script with Aamir Khan in mind before approaching Akshay Kumar. However, when none of them succeeded, it was ultimately given to Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap.

In the documentary, Anil and Anurag portrayed fictionalised versions of themselves for the uninitiated. In order to exact revenge on Kapoor for exposing him to public scrutiny, Anurag kidnaps his daughter Sonam Kapoor, sending the seasoned actor into a state of panic.

Vikramaditya Motwane recently discussed whether or not Aamir Khan was given consideration for the part in an interview with Mid-day. He recalled it and said, “The actor AK could’ve been multiple people. I was like, ‘Aamir is never going to do it’, so let’s not even try.” Further sharing how his meeting had gone with Akshay Kumar when he had approached him for the role, Vikram revealed, “Akshay Kumar, who we did approach, and it was a very interesting meeting.”

As the dialogue continued, Vikramaditya Motwane added how Akshay Kumar responded after hearing him. He said, “He didn’t outrightly say ‘get out of my office’, but it was close enough to being that.”

However, did you know the movie’s original working title—AK vs. SK—was Shahid Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor? Yes, that is accurate. But Shahid Kapoor informed DNA back in 2016 that he wouldn’t be a part of this meta documentary without giving any explanations. His words can be translated as, “AK vs SK isn’t happening anymore. I am not doing that film.”

Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap did, however, show up after all the fuss, and while everyone praised Kapoor’s performance, Vikramaditya Motwane said Anurag’s portrayal of his role was “incredible.”
