Maidaan, a Zed Studios and Boney Kapoor production starring Ajay Devgn, has already seen seven postponements.
Amit Sharma’s sports drama Maidaan, which stars Ajay Devgn as famed real-life coach Syed Abdul Rahim and actual football players from all over the world competing in authentic football matches, doesn’t appear to be close to being finished.
The costly movie created by Boney Kapoor and Zed Studios has already been rescheduled seven times. It now appears that it won’t be released at all this year.
According to a person familiar with the project, Zed Studios is taking no chances with Maidaan after the record-breaking success of Gadar 2. After Gadar 2, they want Maidaan to be their next big hit.
If you can call it that, the budget is the issue.
The insider continues, “While Maidaan has already gone wildly over-budget, due to all the foreign football players who are participating in the on-camera matches, Gadar 2’s tiny Rs 60 crores budget. Zed Studios is adamant on turning Maidaan into an epic football movie. They want it to have the same impact on football as Lagaan had on cricket.
It’s interesting to note that Priyamani and Devgn both star in Maidaan. She is currently enjoying Jawan’s phenomenal success.
