Akhil Akkineni dedicated a significant amount of time, over two years, to Surender Reddy’s film “Agent,” undergoing a remarkable physical transformation for his role. Unfortunately, despite his efforts, the movie turned out to be a disastrous failure at the box office, leaving a lasting impact. Within just three days of its release, the film was removed from several theaters, amplifying its unforgettable flop status.
The OTT rights for “Agent” were acquired by Sony LIV, with the original release date set for May 19, 2023. However, the release was repeatedly delayed, creating speculation and uncertainty among the audience. Producer Anil Sunkara clarified that the rumors regarding re-editing were untrue, stating that the content was ready for OTT screening.
He attributed the delays to reasons known only to the Sony LIV team and assured that there were no financial disputes between the producers and the platform. Recent reports suggest that the OTT release of “Agent” has been permanently shelved.
Although there is no official confirmation on this matter, speculations are rife that even if the film eventually makes its debut on OTT platforms, it will take an extensive amount of time. It is unusual for a film of this magnitude, like “Agent,” to never have an OTT release. The epic downfall of “Agent,” from being touted as Akhil’s breakthrough to never seeing the light of day on OTT, has been a nightmarish journey.
