While The Ramayan may have given us an epic story of how Lord Rama rescued his wife, Goddess Sita, from Raavan’s hold in Lanka, the story has always been told as Lord Rama’s history and his legacy. There are details of Goddess Sita and how she came to be, but those details are few and far in between. We never get to know what kind of a person she was, on a personal level, often leading her to be a woman of mystery and a devoted wife of Lord Rama’s.
There have been several attempts in showcasing Sita’s side of the story, through books and other media, but nothing has managed to really resonate with the audiences. Now, director Om Raut seems to be putting forth his own take on Sita, by giving her the kind of arc that no one has ever seen before. In a recent interview, Kriti Sanon, who plays Sita in Om Raut’s Adipurush, said that her Sita is not a damsel in distress and is a very strong woman.
Kriti has been doing quite the research on her character ever since she was finalised in the role. Young Rebel Star Prabhas is making his Bollywood debut with Adipurush and is playing Lord Ram in the film. Saif Ali Khan will be seen playing Raavan, and Sunny Singh is playing Lakshman. Adipurush is scheduled to release next year.
