Adipurush Director Om Raut says People Claim to Understand Ramayana are Lying!

Om Raut, the film’s director, responds to the controversies as Adipurush is still condemned for its falsehoods.

After great anticipation, Adipurush made its theatrical debut on Friday to roaring applause from audiences. However, both critics and viewers gave the movie a mixed bag of reviews when it first came out. Nevertheless, the movie made over $200 million at the box office in just two days.

While many criticised the film’s visual effects, wardrobe choices, and depiction of mythological characters, others praised the director’s efforts and the celebrity performances. Om Raut, the director, now answers the film’s unfavourable reviews.

Despite the Adipurush’s unfavourable evaluations, Om Raut claimed in an interview that the audience’s chanting of “Jai Shri Ram” during performances had made him feel tremendously happy and content.

The Filmmaker said, “What is more important is the type of response that the film is getting at the box office. I’m very happy to say that we are going for an unprecedented number of day one of the global box office.” Although Adipurush generated Rs 140 crore globally on its opening day, it still has a long way to go given its enormous Rs 600 crore budget.

Om Raut acknowledged that it would be incorrect to assert that he fully comprehends the Ramayana. He said, “If I kind of sit down and tell you that I have understood the drama, I think it will be a serious error because nobody, I feel, has the capacity to understand Ramayana.” He added, “Whatever Ramayana that I have understood, whatever little bit you know, it’s like a squirrel’s contribution. That little bit that I have understood of the Ramayana is something that I’ve tried to portray onto celluloid.”

The television dramatisation of the Ramayana that Adipurush filmmaker claimed to have seen as a child portrayed a more intricate tale. Adipurush, however, concentrates primarily on the Yuddha Kanda chapter of the Ramayana. He said, “Ramayana is so large that it is impossible for anybody to understand. If they say that you understand Ramayana, they are fools, or they are lying.”

Arun Govil, a well-known actor best recognised for playing Lord Rama in the acclaimed television adaptation of the Ramayana, declared his displeasure of the movie and admitting he hadn’t seen it yet. After publishing the first teaser, Govil had a conversation with the Adipurush producers and shared his thoughts and observations.
