Abhishek Banerjee’s Stolen Nominated for Venice Film Festival

India’s official entry at the prestigious Venice Film Festival is the upcoming movie Stolen.

The upcoming movie “Stolen,” which has been selected for exhibition at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, tells the tale of a baby from a tribal group and what happens to it after its mother is abducted.

The movie is directed by Karan Tejpal and stars Abhishek Banerjee, Shubham, and Mia Maelzer. Agadbumb, Karan Tejpal, and Gaurav Dhingra, the latter of whom is known for “Angry Indian Goddesses,” wrote it.

Regarding the movie’s selection at the Venice Film Festival, Abhishek Banerjee said, “I am happy to be a part of a project that’s standing abreast with the finest of world cinema talent. I was seeking for challenging, edgy work outside of mainstream cinema after almost five years of performing in popular films. I was delighted by the script’s novel idea and innovative execution when Karan and Gaurav first showed it to me.

Despite all the challenges, I always believed in the vision and capabilities of my producer and director. Even during the shoot, I could sense that we were making something really special and they have proved me right. The film’s selection at Venice is also a recognition of the hard work and dedication poured into every aspect of the film by a dedicated and diligent crew who made our dream come to life. I’m sure this edge-of-the-seat thriller will find a place in the hearts of audiences and critics, with its unique storytelling and deeply emotional core,” Abhishek Banerjee added.

The movie starts in the early morning hours of a chilly morning at a train station in a far-off rural area of India. A five-month-old infant is taken from Jhumpa Mahato, a poor tribal woman, who is holding her.

Gautam and Raman, two brothers who are both young guys, see the kidnapping take place. When they try to aid her and get caught up in the difficulties of the investigation, their already strained relationship is put to even greater test.

Producer and co-writer Gaurav Dhingra said: “I feel grateful and elated. The fact that our movie “Stolen” was chosen for the Venice International Film Festival in 2023 supports my claim that India is capable of producing content that would keep viewers on the edge of their seats and craving more. ‘Stolen’ is a de facto ‘World Wide Acquisition’ for a Global streamer because to its short and brisk storyline, superb writing, fascinating characters, and riveting performances.

While releasing “Angry Indian Goddesses” and “Faith Connections” in more than 70 nations, I became aware of how much the global public is drawn to stories about India. By addressing common issues with local flavours and structuring ‘Stolen’ as an action-packed mystery thriller, we have “distilled the art of producing a truly global film, creating an irresistible work of cinema that can be consumed globally,” he continued.
