Celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim has sparked a strong discussion in the film industry with his social media post about respecting back screen workers.
He highlighted the importance of valuing hairdressers, makeup boys, stylists, assistants and other crew members instead of calling them “just staff”.
He said that every celebrity appearance, film look, red carpet moment and photoshoot is the great result of hard work by many creative people who often work very much long hours, miss personal events, and sacrifice sleep and family time.
Aalim also criticized rude behaviour from some managers toward crew members and said such actions are unfair and harmful. He added that this can even affect an actor’s public image.
He further stated that his team will avoid working with actors whose teams disrespect crew members. His statement received support from several industry personalities and started wider discussions online about workplace respect.
