Plot: Maha (Suriya) gave up on his IAF job to chase his dream of starting low cost airlines. He couldn’t find an affordable flight to perform his father’s last rites. Hence, he strongly decides to start an affordable airlines that will work and bring the aviation costs in India as well. He convinces his would-be Bommi (Aparna Balamurali) about his idea and after marriage, with her fruitful bakery business, she becomes his biggest support. Well, what are the difficulties he faced to make the low cost aviation work in India is the story!
Performances: Suriya delivered one of his career best performances in the film. He made use of everything that Sudha Kongara gave him in the script and shouldered her vision without any doubt. While he had problems with choosing a good script that suits his image and also gives him chance to showcase his acting skills, this time he couldn’t release such a film in theatres. In any case, he again proved that he is one of the best actors India has ever produced.
Aparna Balamurali is a revelation. Urvashi, Paresh Rawal, Mohan Babu, Karunas and others performed very well.
Technicalities: Story by Sudha Kongara follows a known path but screenplay keeps the things engaging with emotional ups and downs. The climax is the heart of the film and it works very well.
Music by GV Prakash stands out. His background score works much better than songs but we don’t feel them as unnecessary. Editing by Satish Suriya could have been better.
As a director Sudha Kongara extracted best from everyone in the film. She made best use of the available resources and even though the VFX work doesn’t look that great, her story doesn’t suffer with such technical issues. She did try her best to make the film a package for Suriya fans and succeeded for the most part too.
Analysis: This film works not as a biopic but as an underdog story. The amount of obstacles that the protagonist faces makes everyone connect with him and Suriya as a performer shouldered many scenes that otherwise could have ended up flat. This is a movie that everyone should watch.
