Sankranthi season has been one of the busiest and biggest for Telugu Cinema from past few seasons. We saw Soggade Chinni Nayana, Nannaku Prematho, Sathamanam Bhavathi, Gautamiputra Satakarni and Khaidi No.150 becoming huge successes for the season even with the competition.
But this year, Sankranthi season has started with a bang as Agnyathavasi collected record breaking 39 crores share on the first day but from then on, the films released and even Agnyathavasi failed to live up to that excellent start. Jai Simha, got some decent word of mouth and Rangularatnam got critical success.
But both the films did not reach to the audience at the level that would have taken the collections of the films to the heights of previous season hits. At the end of the season, we are end up with Agnyathavasi being the biggest dud and Jai Simha, getting some respite in B and C centres. Rangularatnam and Gang, are still waiting for the word of mouth to kick in and save the distributors. On the whole. this Sankranthi season has ended up being more low profile than ever.
