Suresh Babu has reduced his involvement in film production over the years but he continues to be active in distribution and is very selective about the projects he chooses. In fact he had not purchased the theatrical rights of any film in recent years.
Recently Tollywood’s attention shifted to Psych Siddhartha, a new-age drama featuring Nandu in the lead role. Impressed by the film, Suresh Babu acquired its theatrical rights while Nandu promoted the film aggressively across platforms. Initially planned for a December 12th release the film was postponed to avoid a box office clash with Akhanda 2.
Psych Siddhartha released yesterday but received a very poor response from audiences. The opening collections were low, and the film is now struggling to sustain in theatres. This has come as a rare setback for Suresh Babu, whose judgment usually works well.
Nandu, who also produced the film, had earlier said that Suresh Babu was excited after watching it. Suresh Babu himself revealed that he liked the film so much that he paid an advance for the rights the very next day. However despite targeting youth audiences, the film failed to draw them to theatres. The film is directed by Varun Reddy.
