A.R. Rahman recently shared an important moment from his early career that changed the way he approached music.
In an interview he recalled that at the age of 19, while working with different composers and playing in a band, a guitarist made a bold comment.
The guitarist, who had been drinking, questioned why Rahman was copying film music instead of creating something original. This happened around 1985-86 and left a strong impression on him.
Rahman realized how much he was influenced by the composers he worked with. Wanting to develop his own style, he spent the next seven years breaking away from those influences.
This journey helped him rediscover his creativity and reshape his career. Rahman explained that even harsh feedback can inspire growth and help artists find their true creative voice.
