Tollywood is a huge film industry, and not only in the country, but also in the world, producing hundreds of films each year, if not thousands. It also has a loyal fanbase and audience members, who flock to the theatres to watch the film, unlike in any other culture. Actors here are treated with immense respect, and are considered to be demigods for fans, who worship them and adore them to the fullest.
While male actors – heroes – enjoy a special place in the people’s hearts, the story of female leads – heroines – is completely different. Yes, they too enjoy a special place in the audience’s hearts, but Tollywood is an industry that face severe dearth of leading ladies in the industry, with not everyone becoming a star actress. The reasons for this can be anything, but it is a fact that cannot be ignored.
The lack of star heroines puts filmmakers in a bind always, as they have to repeat an actress opposite the same actor multiple times, and also due to the need of a star actress in their film. Now that Telugu films are being made on a pan-Indian level, the necessity for this has further increased, but the solution to the problem of proper leading ladies doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon.
