A biopic on Karanam Malliswari on cards!

Biopics have become the order of the season with several becoming success stories at the box office as well. Biopics on Sarabjit, Raghav, Paan Singh Tomar have been moderately successful while Biopics based on sportspersons became highly successful. The film based on Milkha Singh, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag became a Blockbuster and Priyanka’s movie about Mary Kom turned out to be successful too.Recently, biopic based on Captain Cool MS Dhoni, MS Dhoni – Untold Story has become a big hit too. A biopic on Cricket God, Sachin Tendulkar is in the mix as well.

Already, Mohammad Azharuddin’s life has been made into a film as Azhar but the film became a flop. Still, producers are looking to produce as many Biopics as possible. Even Dangal, film about to release this Christmas is also a biopic.Telugu Filmmaker Sanjana Reddy has researched about the first Indian woman Olympic medalist and first Indian Athlete to win a medal in Olympics, Karanam Malliswari and got permission from the sportswoman to go ahead with the story she had gathered. Karanam Malliswari had to face a lot of hardships and overcome many financial limintations to train herself coming from a humble middle class family from Vijayawada to score a Bronze Medal in weightlifting in 2000 Olympics.

She inspired many sportswomen from India to go beyond their limitations and win many more medals. In a way for weightlifting and athletics in general to become such important events, in India she had been a great inspiration. Talking about hardships and encouragement she had in her life, will be an interesting story and Sanjana Reddy is trying to get funding from big Bollywood studios to make it in Hindi and Telugu. Sonakshi Sinha is in consideration and a big studio is in talks with the actress go take the idea forward.
