418 Movie Review & Rating!

Prashanth Neel, known for KGF and Salaar, has turned presenter for the first time with the Telugu horror film 418. Starring Chaitra J Achar, Charan Lakkaraju, Suryaraj, and Preeti Pagadala, the film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and directed by Keerthan Nadagouda. Released in theatres on Friday, the film has raised curiosity about whether Prashanth Neel has scored a hit as a presenter.

418 Story: Medical students Vikas and Rohit join a college located in a forest, where they stay in an old hostel with a mysterious Room 418. Despite warnings, the students face terrifying supernatural incidents. After surviving a spirit’s attack, Vivek investigates the room’s dark secrets.

The story explores the mystery surrounding Devika, a Yakshagana artist, her connection to Room 418, and her attacks on women entering the hostel. Can Vikas and Rohit save Sayesha from the deadly spirit?

Performances: Chaitra J Achar is the highlight of 418, impressing with her villainous act and emotional performance. Suryaraj and Charan Lakkaraju deliver decent performances, while Preeti Pagadala does well in her role. However, the comedy fails to create much impact. The supporting cast performs adequately.

Technical Aspects: 418 follows a familiar horror formula but offers a slightly different treatment for Gen Z audiences. The violent flashback and Kannada flavour add freshness. Venky GG’s background score, sound design, and Dinesh Divakar’s cinematography effectively create a scary atmosphere. The visuals and locations also stand out despite the film’s limited budget.

Analysis: Despite high expectations, 418 fails to deliver enough scares. The technical aspects, second-half flashback, and climax twist are interesting, but the story becomes predictable. The limited use of Yakshagana, lack of popular actors, and lengthy runtime are major drawbacks.

Verdict: 418 impresses with its technical quality and climax twist, but predictable storytelling, limited scares, and lengthy runtime weaken the overall experience.

Bottom Line: A routine horror film with limited thrills.

Rating: 2.5/5
