The year 2020 started off as a spectacular year, which then turned out to be one of the most gruelling and grotesque years in the recent past, for Tollywood. Sankranthi 2020 saw two big movies release, and do great business at the box office, Sarileru Neekevvaru and Ala Vaikuntapuramlo. However, the rest of 2020 was plagued by the Coronavirus pandemic, from which the world’s citizens are still recovering, and are afraid of.
While 2021 started off on a promising note, with the movie released for Sankranthi doing well, the summer of 2021 was particularly devastating, with the second wave of coronavirus turning out to be worse than the first wave. The last few months have been promising for Tollywood though, with almost every film that released, doing well at the box office.
On the whole, especially towards the end of the year, it is safe to say that Tollywood is ending things on the brighter side, with hits like Akhanda, Pushpa: The Rise, and Shyam Singhs Roy. Here’s hoping that 2022 turns out better for not only Tollywood, but for every other industry as well.
